The château (de) Saint-Jacques (Castrum Sancti Jacobi) or Saint-Jacquemoz is an ancient castle, probably from the 5th century, possession of the archbishops of Tarentaise until its destruction in 1600, located on the Roc Puppin, above Saint-Marcel, in the department of Savoie in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Location: The Château Saint-Jacques was installed on an isolated rock, called Roc Puppim (sometimes Pupim, Pupins), above Saint-Marcel, in the department of Savoie in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The location of the castle is at the lock of Puppim, a rock upstream of the Isère parade and downstream of the narrow Siaix, thus controlling the road between Moutiers and the upper part of the Tarentaise valley. The rock, whose upper part is at an altitude of 666 m, is inaccessible to the north and east sides, steep reliefs coming from an elbow of the Isère.
