Notre-Dame de l'Osier Basilica is a basilica located in the French department of Isère in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in 1858 on the site of the "Miracle of the Osier" of 1649, it replaces a previous church, which became too small and built in 1659. This new church, built by the Oblate Fathers of Mary Immaculate (who had been in charge of the sanctuary since 1834), is built over a decade, according to the plans of architect Alfred Berruyer.
Built in brick, limestone and cast concrete, in the neo-Gothic style, this church will never be completed according to the original plans. It was consecrated in 1873, then elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1924 by Pope Pius XI. The 20th century saw a series of degradations (falling in 1939, earthquake in 1962), which combined with a lack of maintenance, brought about "safety and heritage conservation problems".
The frame was remodelled in 1983, and a complete expertise of the building made in 1998. The assessment of the cost of the work updated in 2010 coincides with the establishment of an association to restore the building. The first conservation and restoration work...
