The monument to the dead of Alès (Gard, France) pays tribute to the soldiers of the commune who died during the conflicts of the twentieth century.

Characteristics: The monument is built slightly outside the city centre of Alès, in the park of the Bosquet. It is made up of a five-column stone portico with four bas-reliefs, evoking four World War I battles: those of the Marne, Verdun, Champagne and Yser. At each end, a basin rests on a base. In front of the monument, a pond with water jets. The names of the soldiers of the commune who died at the front are inscribed on the columns: 778 for the First World War, 130 for the Second World War, 1 for the Indochina War, 9 for the Algerian War.

History: The construction of the monument was mentioned in 1919, but architect L. Pierredon was appointed only on 18 July 1924. The sculptor Marcel Mérignargues is in charge of bas-reliefs, Albert Malanot for the rest of the ornamentation. The monument was inaugurated on October 25, 1925.
