The Château d'eau de la Gare Saint-Jean de Bordeaux is a water reservoir composed of a base of four arches in the middle of a stone hanger and four tanks placed above, used to supply firefighters with water.
Location: The former water castle is located in the Citernes district, east of Saint-Jean train station, in Bordeaux in the French department of Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The nearest tram station is Gare Saint-Jean via lines C and D.
History: The château d'eau was built between 1854 and 1857 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du midi for the purposes of the Saint-Jean station (started in 1855). The tank is located in the immediate vicinity of a locomotive maintenance and repair rotunda. It is used as a water supply for firefighters. Located in an industrial wasteland after the decommissioning of the site in 1994, the reservoir is threatened with destruction in 2010 as part of the Euratlantic renovation project.
