About

The Recouvrance Bridge is a rising bridge crossing the Penfeld in Brest, Finistère. Dominating the arsenal and the military port, it connects the lower street of Siam to the district of Recouvrance, replacing the rotating bridge (National Bridge) destroyed in 1944 by the allied bombings. Inaugurated on 17 July 1954, it was long the largest lifting bridge in Europe.

Each tower, built of reinforced concrete, is 70 m high. The current steel mobile span, installed in 2011, is 88 m long, 15 m wide, and weighs 625 tonnes.
