Prehistoric archaeological site
The prehistoric site of the Micoque is located in the commune of Eyzies, former town of Eyzies-de-Tayac in the Dordogne. He delivered many lithic remains of the lower Paleolithic. It is the eponymous site of the Micoquian and has also characterized the Tayacian.
The excavations at the beginning of the 20th century of the Micoque deposit, along with those of the Moustier, Combe Capelle, and Laugerie Haute, revealed not only industries still ignored but also the contemporaneity of cultures that had previously been thought to have followed each other. It is one of the fifteen "prehistoric sites and caves adorned with the Vézère Valley" registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1979.
