The former church of St.Georges in Molsheim was the parish church of the 16th century, when it was destroyed in 1780. It was built in the historical heart of the medieval city, at the site of the current Market Square, and dedicated to Georges de Lydda. Very damaged, it was destroyed due to old age shortly before the Revolution. It was then the Jesuit church, built in 1617, which replaced it as a parish church, taking the name "Saint George".

Medieval church: The early historical studies tend to show that a chapel was built in 1221 in the original urban nucleus of Molsheim. This chapel, consecrated in 1315 to St George, was destroyed in 1530 to make way for the parish church. This dating is the result of Canon Médard Barth, which is based on documents from 1198 and 1221, mentioning a fortified cemetery and a tithe church.
