About

The Saint-Martin Church is a Roman Catholic church in the hamlet of Marquemont, the capital of the present commune of Monneville in the department of Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The church was classified as a historical monument by decree of 22 March 1934. Disused during the transfer of the town hall to Monneville in 1860 but already practically out of use at that time, it slowly fell into ruin.

Thanks to the commitment of an association, the most urgent repairs could be made, and the Romanesque nave was even largely restored. The building is especially remarkable for its Romanesque portal of the second quarter of the 12th century, and its Gothic choir built around 1240. In an elegant and light style, it recalls the choir of the abbey Saint-Martin de Pontoise, which no longer exists.

For the installation of woodwork in the eighteenth century, the span of the apse was unfortunately mutilated. The bell tower of the sixteenth century is without great architectural interest externally, while the interior has at least an original and unusual arrangement for the time.
