About

Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Church is a parish Catholic church located in Villers-Saint-Paul, France. Like many medieval churches in the region, it combines a 12th-century Romanesque nave with a 13th-century Gothic choir, but the two distinct parts have peculiarities that make the church unique as a whole. The position of the bell tower between the north crusillon and the choir is unusual for the region.

The nave has a monumental Romanesque portal with multiple archivots, and especially cornices whose modillons are carved, but also intervals, with the most diverse patterns. Inside, the large arcades opening on the sides are among the first in the department to be in third-point, and they fall on capitals of an archaic sculpture, with also a multitude of motifs. The choir, which forms a homogeneous ensemble with the transept, is characterized by its plan, with crucifixes and lateral chapels of two successive spans each instead of one, and by the diversity of the types of windows and the abundance of lighting.
