église Saint-Éloi de Monchy-Saint-Éloi
Saint-Éloi Church is a parish Catholic church located in Monchy-Saint-Éloi, France. It preserves its bell tower and Romanesque choir from the second quarter of the 12th century. The interior lost almost all its authenticity during a heavy restoration in the late nineteenth century, which explains that the building is not classified or listed as historic monuments.
It is nevertheless interesting for its architectural party, with an archaic warhead vault for the base of the bell tower, a cradle vault for the choir, and a bedside illuminated by a triplet; as a witness to the evolution of the building. Indeed, there remains the traces of the old openings, partly blocked in the last quarter of the 12th century, when a nave and a more spacious choir are added to the north of the Romanesque building, in the primitive Gothic style. The church of Saint-Éloi thus becomes a double-ship building.
The choir was partially rebuilt in 1667, and was also affected by the restoration of the late nineteenth century. It preserves a remarkable stone altarpiece of the Renaissance, unfortunately deprived of its original polychromy. Some items of furniture are classified.
