Urêka

The interactive museum of the mine - Urêka is a museum located on the former uranium mine site of Bessines near the Cross of Breuil, in the commune of Bessines-sur-Gartempe, in Haute-Vienne. Opened in July 2013, it traces the history of the nuclear industry, explains the techniques of prospecting, uranium extraction, processing of ore and radioactive waste and redevelopment of the sites, stressing the exploitation of uranium in France and in particular the local history of Limousin, the French region that supplied the most uranium between 1948 and 2001.
