The Centre de découverte des sciences de la Terre (CDST) is located at the northern exit of Saint-Pierre, Martinique, on the left bank of the river of the Fathers and adjoins the ruins of the former Perinal Habitation, facing the volcano of Mount Pelee. It is a place of memory of the eruption of the volcano in 1902, a place of awareness of natural hazards and a place of diffusion of scientific culture. The Centre is built by the General Council of Martinique according to the norms of the latest anti-seismic techniques and is inaugurated in February 2004.
Description: The Centre de découverte des sciences de la Terre offers permanent and temporary exhibitions of a scientific nature in memory of the eruption of 1902 and related to the major natural hazards: volcanoes, earthquakes, cyclones. It also has a screening room featuring the documentary film "Volcans of the West Indies" with beautiful images and very informative comments. There is also a theme garden with a unique view of the Pelee Mountain and a giant aerial photograph of Martinique (36 m2) with stunning details. Finally, conferences are organised around the themes...
