The Hôtel de l'Intendance de Saint-Pierre was a public building located at the corner of Victor-Hugo Street and Abbé Grégoire Street in the Centre district of Saint-Pierre, Martinique. This former seat of stewardship built in the middle of the 18th century was destroyed during the eruption of Pelee Mountain in 1902 and only its double-flyed exterior staircase, which was integrated into Louis-Delgrès College, which now occupies its location, remains.
History: Although there was no Generality in the French islands of America, on 8 April 1679 Jean-Baptiste Colbert proposed to appoint a Police, Justice and Finance Officer of the Islands of America, whose powers were of a civil nature and who shared his power with the Lieutenant-General, or Governor, who was the supreme leader of the colony, whose powers were of a military nature. The head office is located in Saint-Pierre, where the government is already established. In 1692 the seat of government was transferred to Fort Royal.
