Church building
église Saint-Léger de Vauciennes
The church Saint-Léger is a Catholic parish church located in Vauciennes, Oise department, Hauts-de-France, France. It was built between the end of the 12th century and the second quarter of the 13th century, when the nave was built. The primitive Gothic style reigns everywhere, except in the lower side, which dates only from 1628.
The church is of modest dimensions and presents, in a way, the minimum plan for a complete Gothic church: nave of three spans accompanied by low-sides, transept and a short choir with a five-sided apse. The western facade with its large rosace which has lost its remplage and portal to the archivot quintuple; the capitals of the nave with their naturalist sculpture; and the apse with its high and narrow bays framed by the capital columns of the warheads and formationets, show the care that could be given to the small rural churches of the region. However, the church of Saint-Léger was penalized very early by the marshy soil of the village, which caused the abandonment of the construction of two oriented chapels and a bell tower itself, and required several times.
Moisture finally gnawed the sculpture...
