Saint-Denis Church is a Catholic parish church located in Foulangues, Oise department, France. It probably includes parts of an older church, built in the late 11th or early 12th century: these are the upper parts of the nave, invisible from the outside. Otherwise, the church was built during a single campaign of works from the 1140s, and displays a late Romanesque style, which already announces the Gothic by the quality of the sculpture of its capitals, the rigorous composition of its cantoned pillars, and its vaulting of warheads, even though the iconography of the capitals and the archaic profiles of the tillers, warheads and arcades are still strictly novel.
The church of Foulangues is, despite its small dimensions, one of the most remarkable in the region. Its exterior walls do not betray the character of the building they contain, for they have been almost entirely rebuilt at various times. Only the northern lateral chapel of the choir, which is Gothic and date from around 1200, and the southern lateral chapel, which is flamboyant and dates from the first half of the sixteenth century, are inside conforming to the style of...
