église Saint-Léger de Balagny-sur-Thérain
Saint-Léger de Balagny-sur-Thérain is a parish Catholic church located in Balagny-sur-Thérain, Oise commune. It preserves the memory of the martyrdom of Saint Maure and Saint Brigide, which these two Scottish Virgins suffered in Balagny at the beginning of the sixth century: their two reliquary statues are exhibited in the former seigneurial chapel, and several 19th century stained glass windows are dedicated to them. The patron saint of the church is nevertheless Léger of Autun.
The building is very complex, because the eastern parts have been redesigned not only once, but at least twice. From the 11th century, the nave, which is one of the oldest in Beauvais, remains, but unfortunate arrangements of the 19th century made it lose all its Romanesque character. From the reconstruction of the eastern parts to the late Romanesque period only tiny remains remain in the additional span of the nave built around 1130.
More significant are the remains of the second reconstruction campaign in the early Gothic period, around 1200: these are the southern wall of the nave span and the north crusillon with its vault. The choir probably wasn't rebuilt at this...
