musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon
The Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon is one of the most important and one of the oldest museums in France. Located in the heart of the city, it occupies the former Ducal Palace, located in the 15th century of the Burgundian State. When the duchy was attached to the kingdom of France, the palace became the king's home, and in the 17th century became a palace of the states of Burgundy, on a project by Jules Hardouin-Mansart.
Starting in 2006, the museum was completely renovated and expanded. At first, the works focus on a single slice of which the renovated course "Middle Ages - Renaissance" was inaugurated on September 7, 2013. Four years later, the museum completely renovated with 1,500 works in 50 rooms was inaugurated on 17 May 2019 in the presence of the Minister of Culture Franck Riester, former President François Hollande and Mayor François Rebsamen.
The number of visitors flies away with 230,000 recorded at the end of October, reaching 315,000 by the end of 2019. After a sharp decline due to VOCID, the number rebounded in 2023 with 290,458 visitors.
