The Grand Theatre of Dijon is a theatre located in Dijon. Its architecture is similar to those of the Palais Brongniart in Paris and the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Administratively, the room is integrated into the Dijon Opera, which brings together the Robert-Poujade Auditorium and the Grand Théâtre. On average, every year, the Opéra de Dijon welcomes more than 60,000 spectators, 20% of whom come from other parts of France or abroad.
Dijon had since the 17th century a theatre, installed in a transformed old tripot, then called the hall of the tripots, rue Leguz-Gerland. In 1802, the Sainte-Chapelle was destroyed and its cloister freed a space large enough for the city to have a Grand Theatre. The first stone of this building was laid on December 2, 1810. The work, suspended from 1811 to 1822, was completed only in 1828; The inauguration took place on November 4, 1828.
