The cocathedrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assumption de Saint-Pierre de la Martinique, formerly the Mouillage church, then Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Port Cathedral, is a church located at the corner of Victor Hugo Street and Dupuy Street in the Mouillage district of Saint-Pierre, Martinique Island.
History: A first church serving as a private chapel was built in the Mouillage district of Saint-Pierre in 1654 as part of the creation of a Dominican convent by Father Boulogne. Its location quickly attracts many faithful, mostly sailors and libustiers, who come to pray in this convent chapel. The chapel and its bell tower were ruined by an English bombardment of the Saint-Pierre harbour in 1667 during the naval battle between the English fleet and the ships of the Compagnie française des Indes Occidentales. A reconstruction was planned and carried out in 1675, when the officers of the King's fleet made available the labour of their sailors, doubtless supported by the parishioners, and offered to carry the necessary materials.
