Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral in Orange is a former Roman Catholic cathedral located in the French department of Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It was the seat of the diocese of Orange until 1801 and has now become a simple parish church. Since 2009, it has been the seat of the titular bishop of Orange. It has been classified as historical monuments since 4 January 1921, which was extended to the entire church in January 2020 to include the south arm of the transept and the adjoining hall of the parish church. From May 2022 until the first quarter of 2024, the cathedral will be closed due to restoration work (nave and four chapels).

Orange Cathedral

Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral was the seat of the diocese of Orange during the High Middle Ages (VIth century to VIIIth century) and from the 12th century until the Revolution. A first church is attested from the sixth century (consecration in 528). The construction of the present cathedral, which is built on the remains of this church, is initiated by the bishop of Orange Aimar Bérenger of Morges between 1107-1127. In...
