Arausio

Arausio is the Latin name of the city of Orange. It was built in the territory of the Gaulese tribe of Tricastini, members of the confederation of Cavares. The etymology of this name is of Ligurian origin. The toponymists recognized the pre-Indo-European root ar-, meaning height, to which were added suffixes -aus and -ionem.
