pont-canal de l'Orb
The canal bridge of the Orb or bridge-channel of Béziers allows the Canal du Midi to cross the Orb in Béziers. The construction of this canal bridge, led by Urban Maguès, director of the Canal du Midi, was launched in 1854. It was put into service in 1858, and prevented the river from navigating, always random and dangerous, which the vessels had to carry out until then.
It is one of the largest canal bridges in France, comparable to those of the Cacor on the Garonne to Moissac canal, and of the Guétin to Cuffy on the lateral canal to the Loire. The canal bridge has been listed as historic monuments since 29 August 1996.
