château de Mortefontaine
Mortefontaine Castle is a 17th-century French castle located in Mortefontaine, in the department of Oise and the Hauts-de-France region. Built between 1600 and 1630 for the seigneur of Plailly-Montmélian, Philippe Hotman, it became the power center of the Marquisat of Plailly-Montmélian, erected in 1654, whose administrative seat remains in Plailly. The castle was best known for having been Joseph Bonaparte's country residence from 1798 to 1814, making it a high place in society at the time.
Today it is a private residence, which lost its splendor after serving as a school between 1949 and 1958, then as a luxury hotel from 1987 onwards. From the park to the English designed in 1770, nothing significant remains on this part of the estate.
