About

The Church of Notre-Dame is a parish Catholic church located in Epias-Rhus, Val-d'Oise (France). It is a large Renaissance-style building, without common measure with the modest village, which was built with a single jet between 1570 and 1590 according to the plans of master mason Nicolas Le Mercier. In the department, it is one of the few completely homogeneous churches of this time.

Its very stripped style breaks with the early Renaissance buildings of the region, and prefigures classical architecture. However, Gothic influences persist, as shown by the arching of warheads, the penetrating veins of the vaults, the scheduling of elevations and the cruciform plane. Outside, only the bell tower with its stone dome is remarkable.

Inside, the large baroque altarpiece and the frieze of the Apostles and Evangelists, which adorns the choir, hold the attention. A very similar frieze exists in the church Saint-Aubin d'Ennery, whose transept and choir are identical outside, but richly decorated inside. Notre-Dame Church was classified as historical monuments by order of 23 September 1911.
