The Dauphin Museum is a cultural service under the Department of Isère. Located in Grenoble, the former capital of the province of Dauphiné, it is responsible for the memory and history of this territory (which covered the departments of Isère, Drôme and Hautes-Alpes). He relies on history, archaeology and ethnology to carry out this mission.
Created in 1906, the Musée Dauphinois is one of the first regional heritage museums in France (after the Arlaten Museum, founded by Frédéric Mistral). Located on the first heights of the Bastille, overlooking the city, it occupies a former convent of visitandines (17th century), Sainte-Marie d'en-Haut. The entire building (outdoors and roofs) and the chapel are classified as historical monuments; The museum benefits from the label "Musée de France".
This museum has two exhibition spaces that present a synthesis of history and alpine cultures as well as temporary exhibitions, on topics often in resonance with current events.
