The Harteloire Bridge in Brest is a 634 m road bridge crossing the Penfeld over the arsenal. It connects the right and left shores of the city upstream of the Recovery Bridge, to the site of the Navy's ferry bridge, destroyed during the war.
Toponymy: The Harteloire district, and therefore the bridge, the old square, the street and the high school of the same name, have their name of François-René de Betz, Count of the Harteloire.
History: Even before the signing of the German capitulation of 8 May 1945, the reflections on the construction of passages on the Penfeld ended and the national authorities decided to rebuild two bridges:
A fixed road over which national road 12, financed by the State, will pass as war damage, it will be the bridge of the Harteloire; The other, mobile, in the heart of the city and financed by the city, must have only a local service function. It'll be the Recovery Bridge. The construction of a bridge at the Maritime Hospital, at the location of the ferry bridge, is therefore underway.
