About

The refuge de l'Aigle is a high mountain refuge located in the French Alps in the Massif des Écrins, at the foot of the Meije, in the commune of La Grave (département des Hautes-Alpes). The first refuge was built in 1910, it was modified in 1986 by the addition of a kitchen and a narrow dwelling for the guardian, then deconstructed and rebuilt in 2014, while keeping part of the original structure integrated inside the building. Another building, the Lemercier refuge, located next to the Pelvoux refuge (in the same Écrins massif), dating back to 1892 and still operating "the old way", still exists in the Écrins massif and has been recently restored; he can be visited. The Eagle refuge is located in the Écrins National Park.
