Church building
église Saint-Denis de Berville
Saint-Denis Church is a Catholic parish church located in Berville, Val-d'Oise department, France. His story still needs to be clarified. The building combines a 13th-century Gothic choir, austere and unceiling, with a transept and a flamboyant-style bell tower, and a Renaissance nave with a low side.
As indicated by two arch keys, its construction dates from the reign of Henry II (1547-1559). The construction would have been taken over by the local lord, René de Bucy, who is known to be close to Anne de Montmorency. It is probably on this basis that the nave and its western portal were attributed, which was set in front of the facade in 1552, to the sculptor Jean Goujon, architect of the king involved in the construction of the Château d'Écouen.
If the transept and the bell tower are of good standard, it is especially for its Renaissance parts that the church Saint-Denis is remarkable, because there are few Renaissance-style naves in the Vexin. The church has been listed as historical monuments since 1920. She is now affiliated with the parish of Avernes and Marines, and the Eucharistic celebrations are limited to two Sunday Masses a year.
