About

The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is located in the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in the French department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. It is renowned for its 17th century altarpiece in golden wood, the most monumental undoubtedly of the retables of the Basque Country, and for the memory of an exceptional event: this is where the marriage of the king of France Louis XIV with the infant Marie-Thérèse of Spain was celebrated on 9 June 1660. The church is classified as historical monuments by order of 7 March 1931.
