Montierneuf Abbey is a former Benedictine Abbey located in Poitiers, Vienna. The church of Saint-Jean de Montierneuf is the abbey of the former Abbey in a composite but Romanesque style.

Foundation: The monastery was founded in 1069 by William VIII of Aquitaine, Count of Poitiers, in exchange for a dispensation from the pope to marry his cousin Audearde (or Hildegarde) of Burgundy. It was immediately named by the people of the Montierneuf people, the new monastery (or mustier). Work began in 1069 and was completed in 1096. There is no shortage of resources, as shown by the widespread use of the device stone. It was authorized by Pope Gregory VII in 1076. The count makes many donations to the abbey, to ensure its existence: the chapter Saint-Nicolas de Poitiers, founded by the Countess Agnès shortly after 1050, was attached to him between 1083 and 1086. The active phase of the works ended with the death of the Count in 1086. Pope Urban II consecrated it in 1096, when he came to preach the Crusade in Poitou.
