église Saint-Romain de Rouen
Saint-Romain Church is a Catholic church located in the Gare Jouvenet district of Rouen, in the French department of Seine-Maritime. It is close to the train station (place Bernard-Tissot), at the corner of the streets of La Rochefoucauld and Champ-des-Oiseaux. It is dedicated to Saint Roman, Bishop of Rouen under Dagobert.
History: Located outside the city's ramparts, it was the chapel of the convent of the Carmes undressed, installed on the site in 1624. The first stone of the sanctuary was laid on November 20, 1643 by Henri, Duke of Longueville. Oriented, she had her bedside on the rue du Champ-aux-Oiseaux. Father Blaise of Conception, prior of the convent, blessed the choir and sacristy in 1645. The convent was founded in 1568 and was abolished during the Revolution. The church was rebuilt at the end of the seventeenth century following a north-south orientation along the rue du Champ-aux-Oiseaux. The first stone was laid in 1679 by Pierre de Becdelièvre, the first president of the Court. His dedication took place on 21 December 1681, but work continued until 1729. It was at that time that the altar was built, the creation of the sculptor Mazeline. Baroque building...
