Church building
église de la Major d'Arles
The church of Notre-Dame-la-Major d'Arles is a former Romano-Gothic collegiate church in the town of Arles in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. It is located at the northern end of Hauture Hill, overlooking Boulevard Émile Combes to the east and the Arles Arenas to the west. It was the seat of the largest parish in the city and is one of the oldest churches of Arles, for the primitive building was consecrated in 452, at the third council of Arles, by Archbishop Ravennius, as evidenced by the inscription, displayed in the chapel Saint-Martin, engraved on the facade and disappeared in 1592 during its renovation.
