Le Fâ
The town of Barzan, in Charente-Maritime, is home to a major Gallo-Roman archaeological site, which has been the subject of excavations scheduled since 1994. The aerial photographs and archaeological excavations revealed the presence of a Gallo-Roman port city of great importance (gallo-Roman temple, thermal baths, forum, theatre...) located between the communes of Barzan, Talmont-sur-Gironde and Arces-sur-Gironde in the department of Charente-Maritime. It seems almost certain that this Gallo-Roman city, whose peak is in the 2nd century, is the Novioregum indicated in the route of Antonin. This city could also be the Portus Santonum (Port des Santons) described by Ptolemy.
