About

The Cathedral of Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur in Narbonne is the most prestigious monument in the city of Narbonne. Born to two young pupils executed by the Romans, she is a cocathedral of the diocese of Carcassonne and Narbonne. A characteristic of the southern Gothic style, it replaced places of worship built in the centre of the city from the fourth century.

Its particularity lies in the fact that it is unfinished (only the choir is present) and that its height under vault makes it the fourth highest of France (41 m under vault, after Beauvais at 48 m and Amiens and Metz at 42 m). This monument, almost disproportionate to the rest of the city, was one of the most ambitious construction sites in medieval France and one of the most scholarly works of the early 14th century. This building is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1840.

The cloister has been classified as historical monuments since 18 April 1914. A set of adjacent archaeological sites has been classified as historical monuments since 8 July 1937.
