About

The Château des Cornes d'Urfé is a medieval fortress built on a natural promontory of volcanic rock between the 12th and 16th centuries, currently in the commune of Champoly (Loire). It is the heart of the possessions of the family of the lords of Urfé. In the 18th century, the castle was sold for the first time and a second time in 1781 at Durand-Antoine de Meaux, guillotined in 1793 during the Revolution.

The site is looted and then serves as a stone quarry until the return of the legitimate heirs. The castle was restored from 1914 but remained degraded due to weather and vandalism. In 1946 the castle is in the site listed[Where?] "Kings of Urfé and surroundings".

Since 1979, an association has been involved in the restoration of the site.
