About

The Galerie de Botanique, located mainly in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, is one of the institutions for research, conservation and dissemination of the scientific culture of the National Museum of Natural History. This is the botanical research facility with the largest number of samples in the world: in 2013, it had nearly eight million specimens, of which 5.8 million were digitized. Of these digitized specimens, 500,000 are "types" (each type is a specimen used as a model for the scientific description of a particular species).

The gallery of Botanique is located in the southern part of the Jardin des Plantes, along Buffon Street, and is attached to the department "Systematics and Evolution". Additional laboratories and seedlings operate in the nearby "Patouillet" (or "Buffon-Pouleau island") where there is a carpotheque, a seminar room and an orangery. In addition to the Plant Garden, the Museum also has living collections of plants and seeds in Chèvreloup, Menton and Samoëns.
