Church building
église Saint-Jean de Thiers
The church Saint-Jean de Thiers () is a Roman Catholic church located in the lower part of the rocky spur of downtown Thiers in the Puy-de-Dôme in France. Its date of construction being unknown, the first traces of the building date back to the 11th century. The church was thoroughly remodeled in the 15th century before being included in the fortifications of the Thiers ramparts from the 16th century.
Known for being the only church of Thiers being mostly composed of elements of Gothic architecture, it is also a tourist place of this medieval city with its picturesque eponymous cemetery. Joined the list of historic monuments in 1986, it closed its doors permanently to the public in the same year before reopening them for guided tours and temporary exhibitions in September 2020.
