The Pont des Vendéens, also called Pont de Pontlieue completed in Le Mans during the 11th century, is a stone bridge that crossed the Huisne. He was certainly redone by a certain touch. He is particularly famous for being mined by the mancelle troops during the Salesian insurgency.

The bridge was destroyed before the arrival of the Salesians in the city, just before the massacre of the Battle of Mans. The remains of the bridge were preserved and are still visible and accessible as a public park near Newton Drive. Subsequently a new bridge was built about 100 meters from the old bridge, it is the new Pont de Pontlieue.

These two bridges are located in the district of Pontlieue, interchange and important crossing point of the city of Le Mans. The old bridge was long the only one available to cross the Huisne south of the city. The name Pontlieu came from the fact that the commune was located at a place of the convent of sewing.

The road through the bridge was first religious. The possible crossing of the river by Saint-Martin is the starting point. The Church of the Mission or Church of Saint Joan of Arc, located a few kilometers away...
