About

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg (MAMCS) was inaugurated by Catherine Trautmann, then Minister of Culture and former Mayor of Strasbourg, in December 1998. It is built by architect Adrien Fainsilber on the left bank of the Ill, facing the seat of the European community of Alsace and close to the Vauban dam and the picturesque district of Petite France. The Place Jean-Arp, on which the museum opens, also welcomes on its northern part the Institut national du service public, installed in the former commanderie Saint-Jean. Since March 2008, Estelle Pietrzyk, a former mission manager at the Picasso Museum, the Rodin Museum's drawing firm and the creation of the Soulages Museum in Rodez, has served as curator responsible for the museum.
