église Sainte-Aurélie de Strasbourg
The Sainte-Aurélie church in Strasbourg is located on Rue Martin-Bucer in the Gare district. It is a Lutheran Protestant church of the Augsburg confession. According to medieval historiography, it is one of the oldest shrines in the city.
In 1524 Martin Bucer made his debut as a preacher in this church acquired at the Reformation the previous year. Although there are still some elements of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, Sainte-Aurélie is especially noted for its interior arrangement baroque white and gold – altar and 17th century pulpit, organ designed by André Silbermann in 1713 – and the imposing nave of the new church, entirely rebuilt in the 18th century. These assets earned Saint-Aurélie Church to be classified by the Historic Monuments on May 5, 1988.
Between 2002 and 2015, the church and organ Silbermann underwent extensive restoration work.
