About

The Marius-Gontard Bridge is historically the second crossing site of the Isère in Grenoble. It connects Marius-Gontard Street (left bank) to the intersection of the quays of France and Perrière, right bank. The construction of the first stone bridge, decided by Lesdiguières, began in 1621 and was only finally completed in 1671 by his grandson, François de Bonne de Créqui, hence the name of the Créqui bridge which was also given to him in the 17th century.

After numerous destructions and reconstructions caused by successive floods (1733, 1740), it was rebuilt in stone in 1839 and called the Hospital Bridge. Since 1924, he has had the same name as the street he extended, that of a Grenobles councillor general (1856-1923).
