Church building
église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Chantilly
The Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption is a parish Catholic church located in Chantilly, Oise department, Hauts-de-France, France. It's Chantilly's first church. Its construction was launched in 1687 by Prince Henri-Jules de Bourbon-Condé in accordance with a vow expressed by his father's will the Grand Condé, which also stipulated that the necessary funds must be made from his fortune.
The plans were designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and the church was completed in early 1692. It is a building of a rather sober classical style, which is quickly too small: to respond to the population increase, an expansion was undertaken between 1724 and 1734. The church has hardly changed since then.
In the Oise department, there are no other parish churches of a clearly stated classical style. For this reason and the quality of its architecture, it was classified as historical monuments by order of 30 September 1965. It is in the centre of the parish of the Sainte-Famille de Chantilly.
