église Saint-Étienne de Marly-la-Ville
Saint-Étienne Church is a parish Catholic church located in Marly-la-Ville, France. Its construction began at the end of the 12th century in the primitive Gothic style, but most of the building dates back to the 13th century and is a beautiful illustration of the radiant Gothic style. The elevation on three levels with triforium and high bays in the nave, as well as the two levels of windows superimposed in the apse testify to an unusual ambition and architectural research for a rural parish.
The architect has been able to give the nave an impulse effect, and the interior is elegant and rather bright. A particular feature is the chapel on the top of the bedside of the south side, whose external walls describe a hemicycle: this type of chapel exists only in the north-east of France. At the end of the 15th century, the central ship was bent by flamboyant vaults with complex veins.
In 1774, a half-clothing panel was laid in almost the entire church, and the capitals of the large arcades were deprived of their carved decoration. The building has been listed as a historic monument since 1933.
